Prerequisite: Download Google Chrome

If you don’t already have Chrome, go to the Google Chrome site and download it. Although Grammarly for Gmail works with most browsers, Chrome best supports it.

Once you’ve downloaded and installed it, you’ll see the Get Started screen. You can sign in to your Gmail and set up bookmarks. Press skip if you don’t want to do these things right now.

1. Find the Grammarly Add On for Chrome

To start using Grammarly in Gmail, you’ll need to download the Grammarly for Chrome extension. You can visit the Chrome Webstore and search for it. Alternatively, in Chrome, type “Grammarly extension” into the Google search bar. The first option should be Grammarly for Chrome in the Chrome Web Store.

2. Open It And Click On “Add to Chrome.”

3. Download The Grammarly Chrome Extension

A pop-up appears, asking you to confirm you want to add the Grammarly add-on. Confirm by clicking Add Extension, and it will begin to download. Once downloaded, the green Grammarly icon will appear in your address toolbar on the far right.

5. Download the Grammarly Desktop App (Optional)

Inside the Grammarly web app, navigate to the app section on the left-hand tool bar. Now, download the relevant app for Windows or Mac. Complete the installation and log into your Grammarly account. This app works across all writing apps and is the easiest way to use Grammarly inside Gmail.

6. Sign Up For Grammarly

If you haven’t already done so, go to Grammarly and create an account using your best email or social login.

7. Open Gmail

Open up an email and write as normal, within Gmail. Don’t worry about typos or mistakes until you complete your email.

8. Enable the Grammarly for Chrome Extension

Click on the G icon to trigger Grammarly in Gmail

Click the green button that says TURN IT ON, and you now have Grammarly inside Gmail account, checking your emails. When editing your email, simply click on this to access Grammarly’s suggestions.
