Become a Writer Today

Privacy policy

Become a Writer Today is run by Bryan Collins from Ireland. This page explains, in plain language, what data this site collects, why, where it goes and what never leaves your browser. If anything here is unclear, emailbryan@becomeawritertoday.com.

The short version

What stays in your browser

The free tools store their data in your browser's local storage: saved words, rhymes and names (the Writer's Toolkit), your submission tracker entries, drafts in the query letter builder and invoice generator, tool report history and your light or dark theme choice. This data is stored on your device only. It is never transmitted to us or to anyone else, and we cannot see it. Clearing your browser data removes it. The one exception is cross-device sync for Writer's Toolkit Pro subscribers, described below, which only runs behind an active paid subscription. The free tier never uploads anything.

Email signup

When you subscribe to the newsletter, request a download or set a deadline alert, we collect your email address, the page you signed up from and, for deadline alerts, the genre you chose. That data is stored withResend, the email service we use to send you what you asked for: the welcome series, the weekly newsletter, your download or your genre alert. We do not sell or share the list, and we do not use it for anything you did not sign up for. Every email includes an unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing stops all mailings, and if you want your address removed entirely, email us and we will delete the contact record.

Tool reports email numbers, never your writing

The manuscript analyzer, readability checker and manuscript workbench can email you your scores. That email contains counts, rates and severity labels only. Your manuscript is analysed in your browser and the text never leaves it. Two separate safeguards enforce this: the page only sends the numeric scores, and the server rejects any request containing fields outside a fixed list of bounded numbers and labels. There is no field in which text could travel, so we never have it.

Purchases

Digital products and Writer's Toolkit Pro are sold throughStripe. Checkout happens on Stripe's pages, so your card details go to Stripe and never touch this site. After a purchase, Stripe tells us your email address so we can send your download link or license key. Our own sales records store a one-way hash of your email, not the address itself. Receipts and payment records live with Stripe.

Writer's Toolkit Pro sync

If you subscribe to Writer's Toolkit Pro, cross-device sync uploads your saved items, submission tracker entries, numeric report history and alert genre choices to private storage on our hosting so your other devices can pull them down. The sync data is keyed to your subscription and cannot be requested by anyone else. If you cancel, uploads stop, you keep read access for 30 days to export your data, and after that the stored copy is no longer accessible. The copy on your own device is never touched.

Analytics

We use Plausible Analytics, including a self-hosted instance, to count page views. Plausible is cookieless: it collects aggregate statistics, sets no cookies, stores no personal identifiers and does not follow you across other sites. There is no Google Analytics and there are no advertising trackers on this site, which is why there is no cookie banner.

Hosting, server logs and abuse protection

The site is hosted on Netlify, which keeps standard server logs, including IP addresses, for security and operations. Our signup and report endpoints also keep a short-lived counter per IP address to stop automated abuse; those counters cover a one-hour window and hold nothing but a count and a timestamp.

Affiliate links

Some outbound links, such as those to Grammarly and ProWritingAid, are affiliate links. If you click one, the retailer knows the visit came from this site via a referral code in the link. What the retailer collects from you is governed by its own privacy policy. See our affiliate disclosurefor the full list of relationships.
