If you’re not familiar with Google Docs or the Google Docs app, it can be a little confusing to find out how to display word count. Thankfully, the process is simple. When you’re working in a Google Doc and want to see the total number of words you’ve typed, click on the Tools tab in the toolbar at the top of your document. Then, from the drop-down menu, select the word count feature.

For example, if you’re working with a Mac iOS, use Command+Shift+C to make the word count box pop up on your screen. If you’re working with a Microsoft operating system (and working in Google Docs instead of Word in Microsoft Office), your keyboard shortcut is slightly different: use Ctrl+Shift+C.
