Grammarly Vs. EasyBib: Which Writing Software Wins?

Grammarly vs. EasyBib – This review covers everything you need to know about each tool and which is a better choice for you.

After using Grammarly for over three years to check my articles, emails, and social media posts for errors, I decided to buy and test several other proofreaders to compare them against Grammarly.

Recently I bought EasyBib to create citations, check for plagiarism, and clean up my work. I found that it’s easy to use, affordable, and offers helpful features for writers.

So I had to compare Grammarly vs. EasyBib. I put each tool through set criteria, and in this post, we’ll cover who can benefit from these tools and which is a better option for writers, business owners, and students.

Who Can Benefit From Using Grammarly?

Grammarly Vs. EasyBib

Max Lytvyn, Alex Shevchenko, and Dmytro Lider founded Grammarly in 2009 in San Francisco. Their goal was to create a grammar checker that’ll make communication easy for its users.

I’ve been using this online writing software since I started my career as a freelance writer, and I noticed that it could empower:

  • Professional writers
  • Business owners
  • On the go writers

Professional Writers

Any professional writer can benefit by using Grammarly. Some include:

  • Bloggers
  • Novelists
  • Poets
  • Screenwriters

So when you’ve finished writing your blog post, copy and paste it into Grammarly. Here, it’ll spot grammar, spelling, sentence structure, and readability issues. The suggestions are neatly laid out on the right, and you can accept or reject them based on their relevance.

You’ll also find a plagiarism checker icon in the bottom right corner. Once you select the plagiarism checker, Grammarly compares your content against billions of web pages and gives you a plagiarism score.

Business Owners

If you’re a business owner, you likely employ professionals to help you run, manage, and grow your business. These professionals write a lot, whether it’s articles for your readers or emails to your customers.

But regardless of how good they are at writing, errors will slip in. I’ve been writing almost every day for a few years now, and I still miss errors even after several rounds of edits.

This is where Grammarly Business can help you and your team avoid unprofessional and embarrassing mistakes. After your content writers have finished writing an article, paste it into Grammarly, and it’ll catch most errors.

Your customer support and sales team can install the Chrome extension, and Grammarly will spot errors as they are typing emails.

On The Go Writers

Whenever I’m on the bus or train, I like to jot down blog post ideas and outlines and catch up on my email inbox.

When writing on the go, I suggest downloading the Grammarly mobile app. It’s similar to the desktop app and contains all the same features, including the ability to check your work for writing errors and plagiarism.

This mobile app integrates with Gmail, Outlook, and even instant messaging apps like WhatsApp. So when you’re typing on the go, you’ll have Grammarly by your side, spotting any mistakes.

Now let’s see who can benefit from using EasyBib.

Who Is The Ideal EasyBib User?

Neil Taparia founded EasyBib in 2001 in New York City, intending to help students and researchers create citations and avoid plagiarism.

EasyBib also offers a grammar checker that allows you to paste your work, and the software looks for spelling and grammar errors within seconds. It’s available on different browsers like Chrome, Firefox, and Safari.

Here are some helpful features that EasyBib offers:

  • Advanced citation creation
  • Note-taking
  • Plagiarism checking
  • Professional writing feedback
  • Instant math solver

These features are helpful, and you can save hours when writing essays and assignments.

If you’re referencing someone else’s work, use EasyBib’s free citation tool since it’s super easy to use, and it helps you avoid accidental plagiarism. This is important when writing research papers.

Another EasyBib feature that helped me is its professional writing feedback. After submitting your paper, writing experts will look at your assignment, and within 24 hours, you’ll receive feedback. This feedback is helpful when creating an essay since you get other writers to look at your work.

After using EasyBib to create citations and check my work for errors, I noticed that it’s a practical option for:

  • Researchers
  • Students
  • Authors

Researchers

When writing research papers, it’s essential to cite references properly since incorrect citations can lead to plagiarism.

But as a researcher, when you use EasyBib, you can be sure that all your sources are correctly referenced. To use the citation tool, head over to EasyBib.com, click on the citation option, and from here, you can paste in the article link, and the software will automatically create a citation.

You can copy this citation and paste it in Google Docs, Microsoft Word, or any other writing software.

Students

When writing assignments and essays for your school or college, it’s important to reference your sources correctly. Incorrect referencing can lead to accidental plagiarism, which is known to cause disciplinary action and suspension.

However, citing your sources is super easy with EasyBib. It only takes a few seconds. EasyBib also cites your work in different formatting styles like MLA, APA, and Chicago Style. This ensures your writing remains consistent, which is a significant factor that teachers look for in a student’s work.

Once you’ve finished writing your essay and citing your sources, paste your work into EasyBib’s grammar check tool. This software is quick, easy to use, and works on Android, iOS, Windows, and Mac.

Authors

If you’re currently writing a non-fiction book covering complex topics like health, fitness, politics, business, or relationships, using a citation tool like EasyBib is crucial.

It allows you to acknowledge the ideas that you include in your book. This builds credibility and trust with your audience since you aren’t taking credit for another author or researcher’s ideas.

Your readers can also locate your sources quickly and learn more about the concepts in your book.

A good citation tells readers the what, who, when, and where. However, this can become time-consuming as you hunt for the information needed for a citation.

Instead, copy and paste your source’s URL into EasyBib, and it’ll generate a citation according to your writing style within a few seconds. This also eliminates the risk of incorrect citations, which leads to accidental plagiarism.

Now that we’ve covered who can benefit from EasyBib let’s compare these tools and see which is a better option for you.

Ease Of Use

On my writing journey, I’ve bought and tested several writing tools. Those that I don’t recommend to my fellow writers are usually difficult to use. When you sign up for an account, you must spend a few days getting used to the software and how it works.

Fortunately, with Grammarly and EasyBib, you’ll notice that when you sign up, everything is super easy to use.

When using Grammarly, all you have to do is paste your writing. A screen will pop up asking for your writing style, for example, formal, neutral, or casual. After this, all your suggestions will be on the right. You can also find other helpful features on this dashboard, like a plagiarism checker.

If you download the plugin, it’ll spot errors when typing in Microsoft Word, Gmail, Outlook, or any social media platform.

EasyBib is also easy to use. Simply head over to EasyBib.com, and on the home page, you have an option to either create citations or check your work for mistakes.

When creating a citation, copy and paste the link of your source, and EasyBib will generate a citation within a few seconds. From here, copy the citation and paste it into Google Docs or Microsoft Word.

Accuracy

Alongside useability, accuracy is a criterion that every proofreader must meet. It’s no use pasting your content in a tool when it’ll miss most errors.

After using Grammarly and EasyBib, I noticed that both are accurate writing tools since they catch similar readability and grammatical errors.

For example, when I pasted my Salman Rushdie Masterclass review into Grammarly Premium, it spotted 25 mistakes.

Alongside useability, accuracy is a criterion that every proofreader must meet

I pasted the same article into EasyBib, and it spotted 18 errors. This is more than I expected, and it caught similar errors to Grammarly.

It even checked for passive voice, which is an error that Grammarly didn’t spot. However, Grammarly is more accurate since some of EasyBib’s suggestions were irrelevant. After you paste your text, it doesn’t ask for your writing style, so it’ll suggest you write in a more formal tone.

That’s why I’ll say Grammarly is more accurate. The software allows you to decide which tone of voice you want, tailoring suggestions around that.

Pricing

If you’re on a budget, you’ll need a tool that isn’t only easy to use and accurate but affordable too.

  1. A monthly plan of $29.95
  2. A quarterly plan of $59.95

If you choose the Study Pack, you’ll have all the features in the Plus plan, including more advanced options like:

  • Real-time math calculator

These features are super helpful if you’re a beginner since you can ask writing experts any questions you have. They also give feedback which is essential at the beginning of your career.

Additional Features

After using and testing Grammarly and EasyBib, I was surprised by the number of extra features they offer. These features helped me meet deadlines and create better content:

  • Grammarly offers professional editors
  • EasyBib allows you to create citations within seconds

Grammarly Offers Professional Editors

Grammarly’s professional editors helped me meet deadlines when I was struggling to stay afloat.

For me, writing is relatively straightforward because, after a few minutes, you get into a flow state which feels fantastic. However, editing can be a real struggle. I find it takes more willpower to edit a long-form blog post, and it’s challenging to get into a flow state.

But with Grammarly, if you don’t feel like editing, consider using the professional editor. It’s the icon on the bottom right of your dashboard above the plagiarism button. The editors correct mistakes and provide feedback, all within a few hours.

EasyBib Allows You To Create Citations Within Seconds

If you’re publishing a research paper online or writing an essay for your school, you’ll need to cite your sources correctly. Depending on the writing format you’re using, the citation will look different.

This is where EasyBib can make your life easier. Head over to the citation tool, paste in the link of your source, select your writing format, and the software will automatically create a citation for you.

Areas Of Improvements

After using Grammarly and EasyBib, I noticed that each tool contains a few weaknesses that the developers should strengthen. These areas of improvement include:

  • Grammarly only works in English
  • EasyBib’s proofreading software isn’t as accurate as Grammarly’s

Grammarly Only Works In English

If you’re writing articles and assignments in languages other than English, then Grammarly isn’t for you. This is because Grammarly only works on the different variations of English, like American English and British English.

In the future, I’d like to see Grammarly accommodate users who write in other languages by developing its tool.

If you’re looking for a proofreader that works in multiple languages, consider Microsoft Editor.

EasyBib’s Proofreading Software Isn’t As Accurate As Grammarly’s

When pasting my work into EasyBib, I noticed that it always spotted a similar number of grammar mistakes as Grammarly. However, I dismissed some of these suggestions since they weren’t relevant to my writing style.

Sometimes I’d use casual phrases, and EasyBib will suggest that I use a more formal synonym.

I’d like to see EasyBib recommend more accurate suggestions based on your writing style. If you’re looking for a tool that allows you to base suggestions around different writing styles, consider using Grammarly, Ginger, or ProWritingAid.

Pros Of Grammarly
  • It offers advanced features like a plagiarism checker and professional editor
  • Grammarly is accurate and easy to use
  • The add-on makes changes to your writing in Gmail, Safari, and Microsoft Word
Cons Of Grammarly
  • The grammar checking tool only works in English
  • Grammarly tries to upsell upgraded deals regularly
  • It can’t replace a human editor
Pros Of EasyBib
  • Creating citations is easy
  • It’s affordable
  • The plagiarism detection tool is accurate
Cons Of EasyBib
  • There are too many ads on their web page
  • The proofreading tool isn’t as accurate as Grammarly
  • EasyBib’s free version is limited

My Testing Criteria

When testing these tools, I used the following criteria to find out if I should recommend them to my fellow writers or not:

  • Usability
  • Accuracy
  • Flexibility
  • Affordability
  • Additional features

After using Grammarly and EasyBib, I noticed that both are easy to use, flexible, affordable, and offer additional features that are super helpful for writers like a plagiarism checker.

EasyBib’s proofreading tool catches advanced issues like passive voice. However, many suggestions are irrelevant, and EasyBib should focus on improving the accuracy of its proofreader.

Why Trust Us?

I’ve been writing articles, email newsletters, and social media posts for a few years now, and no tool helped me more than Grammarly. It’s accurate, easy-to-use, and offers helpful features like weekly feedback emails.

This feedback allowed me to understand what I was doing wrong and improve, especially at the beginning of my career. I found out that my most common mistakes are missing commas and repetitive adverbs, and I aimed to fix that.

Recently, I started testing other proofreaders and comparing them to Grammarly. When I began using EasyBib, it helped me create citations, and this is a feature that Grammarly doesn’t offer. Creating citations with EasyBib is super easy, and it adjusts based on your writing format.

Final Word On Grammarly Vs. EasyBib

After using and testing EasyBib for the last few months, I’d recommend the premium plan for anyone looking for a tool that creates citations. It also offers a plagiarism and grammar checker, which is helpful. However, avoid the free plan since it’s limited and a waste of time.

I’d also recommend Grammarly to any writer. Since I started my career as a freelance writer, I’ve been using the tool, and it helped me develop. It’s the most accurate writing software available, and it gives you constructive feedback every week, which is super helpful if you’re looking to grow.

In short, use Grammarly if you’re looking for an accurate writing assistant that offers advanced features like weekly feedback and professional editors. On the other hand, use EasyBib if you need an affordable tool that’ll create citations within seconds.
