A proofreader must be accurate to be considered a practical choice. Many proofreaders on the market are easy to use and affordable, but they fail to catch basic mistakes.
After using Stylewriter and Grammarly, I found that both tools are accurate but in different ways.
Grammarly mainly fixes grammar, spelling, and style issues. For example, if your sentences are difficult to understand, Grammarly points them out and tells you how to improve.
Stylewriter mainly focuses on glue words, passive voice, and overused words. This increases the readability of your content. Without a passive voice, your writing sounds strong and reads better. However, Stylewriter makes many wrong suggestions. For example, if you’re writing an essay containing the word “interface”, then Stylewriter will suggest you swap it out for “boundary” or “link”. This makes no sense.
When checking this article with Grammarly, it made 25 suggestions.
When I pasted it into Stylewriter, it found 27 style issues. However, some of them were inaccurate.

I’d like to see Stylewrite develop a Chrome extension or add-on that allows users to check their work without copying and pasting every time. Other proofreaders like Hemingway Editor, Ginger, Whitesmoke, and ProWritingAid offer helpful integration features.
Grammarly’s Professional Editor Is Expensive
Grammarly’s real-life editor is a practical option if you’re swamped and struggling to meet deadlines. These editors make sure your writing is error-free and reads well. However, it can get expensive in the long run, especially if you’re using it regularly.
To fix this, I’d like to see Grammarly offer a bulk special. So if you’re checking a certain amount of words, Grammarly gives you a discount. This option is more practical for writers who use professional editors regularly.
