Grammarly recently released an automatic citation generator. It’s real-time saver for writers. The generator is useful for creating citations for non-fiction articles and books. The feature is still in beta and works on the following websites:
- Wikipedia
- Frontiers
- PLOS One
- ScienceDirect
- SAGE Journals,
- PubMed
- Elsevier
- DOA
- arXiv
- Springer
Currently, the automatic citation feature is still in beta and doesn’t work everywhere yet. So, if you need to create a manual citation, Grammarly offers a tool for that.
- Install Grammarly on your Chrome browser.
- Visit a website with an article you want to cite for a piece of writing.
- Click on the “Get citation” button at the bottom of the page.
- Grammarly will automatically generate a citation for the article, based on your preferred style.
- Copy the formatted citation and paste it into your writing app of choice.
- If you prefer a different citation style (MLA or Chicago Manual of Style), click on the style name in Grammarly and copy the citation in that style.
- If the automatic citation generator button does not appear, use the manual citation generator on grammarly.com/citations instead.
- Select your citation style, enter the source details, and generate your citation.
- Use the generated citation in your bibliography or in-text citation.
Learning how to organize citations are a key part of writer’s workflow, particularly if you write non-fiction, research papers or academic works. Although the Grammarly citation generator requires internet access and is limited to certain websites, I’d expect it to improve over time.
