Next, you can use the keyword ideas option to bring up related suggestions. Truthfully, this is one of the most useful features of this tool, as it allows you to expand topic ideas and find similar keywords for use in your content.
There are many filtering options available. For instance, you can use phrase match to find longer organic keywords that include your exact phase.
You can also choose to see only keywords that rank based on your seed keyword. You can also filter by cost per click (CPC), search volume, keyword difficulty and more. I regularly filter for question keywords to plan content.
You get a massive amount of suggestions per keyword. For instance, I got over 70,000 keyword suggestions after only three keywords.
However, just because there are a lot of keywords doesn’t particularly mean anything. You have to use the filters correctly to find the best keywords. After all, you simply can’t include thousands of keywords in a single article. That just isn’t going to work.
Luckily, Ahrefs has ten different filters available. You can easily use these filters to figure out which keywords are best for your article.
For instance, you can filter out keywords based on search volume. Click per search metrics is also available, which tells you how many clicks each search result yields. The higher this number, the more likely you are to get a click.
You can also utilize the rate of return metric. This metric allows you to see how many times someone searches that keyword in the same month. Aim for popular searches, ones with little competition or high commercial intent.
At first glance, all of this information can be a bit overwhelming. However, if you know how to use it and what to look for, you can quickly find the best keywords for your purposes.
They also have a free keyword generator tool, though this isn’t nearly as powerful as the full version.
Site Explorer is a key tool if you’re trying to drive search traffic with organic content. It is one of the most comprehensive tools on Ahrefs, allowing you to access information on a website’s content and backlinks.
This SEO tool also works as a rank tracker to see how you compare against other websites.
It allows you to see your domain rating, backlink profile, referring domains, and countless other metrics. Most of the important information needed for proper SEO optimization is located in this section.
You can use this information to analyze your website, of course. However, you can also use it to analyze competitor websites, giving you some information on your competitors. If you use the metrics correctly, you can locate markets that are ripe for the taking.
You can also use the top pages function to view the top pages for that particular website. Use this to spot key pages. This information can give you an idea of what works best for certain competitors. In many cases, you can use this to figure out which pages you should focus on making.
You can also view the top pages in terms of other metrics, like social media engagement, using the top content function. Finding this information otherwise is difficult.
There is also a “best by links” option, which filters pages by the number of links and referring domains. You can also view link growth statistics, allowing you to see which pages are growing the fastest.
You should remove bad links pointing towards your site, as they can negatively impact its search rankings.
Google does allow you to “disavow” the link, as you often can’t remove them yourself. However, use this tactic with caution unless you’re comfortable vetting links.
