Do you want your email list to take off?
I do. So, I recently wrote a post for Tweak Your Biz with 5 Simple But Effective Strategies For Building Your Email List Fast.
In this guest blog post, I recommend online writers grow their email list by:
- Enticing readers to opt-in by offering free high-value content
- Telling readers where to sign up and why they should do it
- Making it as easy as possible for your readers to subscribe
- Using the right tools for encouraging sign-ups
- Designing your website so that it encourages even more opt-ins
You can use any or all of these strategies to grow your email list faster today.
Proven Email Strategies
I entice readers to join the WorkReadPlay Insider list by offering content like A Beginner’s Guide to Twitter. This piece of content has a 40 percent opt-in rate.
I tell (ask nicely!) readers to sign up by asking questions and including call-to-actions at the end of my blog posts.
I make it as easy as possible for readers to sign up by having multiple places for them to do so. You can find sign-up forms at the end of my posts, in the feature box at the top of this web page and in the sidebar.
I also offer bonus insider content as part of my more popular posts. I give this content to new members of the Insider list for free. One high-converting example is the list of Moleskine notebook alternatives at the bottom of this post.
Next, I use WordPress tools to encourage sign ups, such as the Scroll Triggered Boxes plugin.
Thanks to this free plugin, when new visitors to this website scroll down, they are presented with an unobtrusive sign-up box in the lower right-hand corner of their browser window. The best thing is regular readers don’t see this box (unless they clear their cookies).
Finally, I hired a web designer to create a feature box, which lives above the fold. I put a picture of my new book in this feature box, and I also explain why readers should subscribe using simple bullet points.
This way when new visitors arrive on my site, they can quickly see if the content here is relevant for them.
